USGBC CEO pens Huffington Post op-ed on green economic recovery

Stemming from his trip to Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum, U.S. Green Building Council CEO, Rick Fedrizzi, wrote an op-ed outlining immediate solutions for our economic recovery including how to reduce U.S. energy consumption by 23 percent by 2020, save the U.S. economy $1.2 trillion, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1.1 gigatons annually.

In a meeting with President Bill Clinton last week, even as the basic necessities of human life slowly began to flow, we began putting our hands around the rebuilding work before us. The redevelopment work we started before the earthquake takes on new urgency, but it also has begun to take on a practical scope. Beyond funds for food and water, simply clearing away the rubble is a huge undertaking that must begin immediately. President Clinton has asked that we put out a call to our community for donations of machinery to help clear a path and building materials that can be used to make the most basic of structures for food distribution, hospitals and sanitary facilities.

Rethink, Redesign, Rebuild: Davos 2010

USGBC President and CEO Rick Fedrizzi will travel to Davos, Switzerland this week to participate in the 40th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum, joining some 2500 global leaders from 90 countries as they meet under the theme "Improve the State of the World: Rethink, Redesign, Rebuild.” The situation in Haiti will figure significantly in the week’s discussion.

USGBC’s Natural Talent Design Competition, presented by Salvation Army’s EnviRenew Initiative, challenges students and emerging professionals to design a small, affordable, green home for elderly occupants in New Orleans. LEED Professional Exams: GBCI, VA Cover Exam Fees for Veterans, Reservists and Families

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), in accordance with the G.I. Bill, has agreed to reimburse Veterans, eligible dependents and reservists for the cost of any of the LEED Professional Exams administered by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).
